Volunteer or Intern at SAAFE House

You can help create safety, healing, and hope in our community.

Serve With Purpose. Support Survivors.

Volunteers and interns play a vital role in supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence across our four service counties — Walker, Polk, Trinity, and San Jacinto. Whether you want to give back, gain experience, build professional skills, or serve your community, your time and compassion help keep essential services running. You may sort donations, support families at the shelter, assist with events, help at our resale shop, or work alongside our outreach staff, and every task — big or small — strengthens our mission and directly supports survivors rebuilding their lives. We offer flexible opportunities for individuals, groups, college students, and those needing community service hours.

Internships offer meaningful, hands-on experience in victim services.

Internships at SAAFE House give students and emerging professionals the opportunity to gain real-world experience in advocacy, counseling support, nonprofit operations, marketing, and community outreach. Internships are unpaid but provide valuable academic and career development.

Common fields of study include Social Work, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Human Services, Marketing, Communications, and Nonprofit Management.

All volunteers and interns receive the training and support needed to feel confident.

Some roles — especially advocacy positions — involve sensitive, trauma-informed work. Because of this, SAAFE House provides training to ensure volunteers and interns understand safety protocols, confidentiality, and best practices for supporting survivors respectfully and effectively.

Many trained volunteers eventually assist with hotline support, court accompaniment, and shelter advocacy, making a long-term impact.
