At SAAFE House, we're always looking to collaborate with college students and recent university graduates. Real-life work experience provides interns with a competitive edge and resume-building, and in particular, SAAFE House’s Shelter's internship program offers a rewarding experience that will broaden the intern’s horizons while providing the opportunity to gain experience at an established nonprofit. SAAFE House internships are non paid positions.

Current internship opportunities are listed below.


The purpose of this internship is to gain experience, knowledge, and training in the domestic violence sector and to learn how a non-profit Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault agency is run.


  • Participate in advocacy training in areas of client services

  • Participate in cross training (front office, hotline, operations, etc.)

  • Learn about how non-profits function, especially in the Domestic Violence field

  • Shadow advocacy staff as appropriate

  • Work closely with the Director of Advocacy and Education and Residential and Non-Residential Advocates to assist various client needs

  • Completion of 20 hours of Privilege Training

  • Completion of Hotline or Non-Residential Front Office Training

  • Learn about daily operations of Residential and Non-Residential Campuses

  • Help supervisor with client Court Accompaniment (as scheduled)

  • Help with special advocacy department projects


  • Enrollment in a Bachelor or Masters level Social Work/Counseling/Humanities or related field Program with an internship requirement

    • It must be a class requirement that student seeks an internship

  • Ability to work 12-16 hours a week

    • Must have some weekday daytime availability

    • Must be able to attend weekly Advocate Meeting (meeting takes place every Friday from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.)

    • Potentially evening and weekend availability

  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) Preferred

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written

  • Problem solving skills and ability to perform rush tasks.

  • Demonstrates experience with and sensitivity to varying cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds, values, and attitudes.

  • Acceptance of agency philosophies regarding domestic violence, internal conflict resolutions, and how decisions are made

  • Eagerness to learn and desire to grow

  • Passion for working to end domestic violence

SAAFE House is looking for energetic and self-motivated marketing intern(s) to join our marketing department.  If you’re an ambitious individual who wants to build a career in marketing and learn from someone who has more than 30 years of marketing and event experience this is the internship for you. Intern positions are not paid positions with SAAFE House.

Your work will include but not limited to retail marketing, event planning & execution, branding campaigns, web design, promotional materials, social media marketing, and so much more.

In addition to being an excellent communicator, you should have excellent multitasking and organizational abilities.


  • Perform market analysis and research on the latest trends.

  • Assist with daily administrative duties.

  • Design and present new social media campaign ideas.

  • Monitor all social media platforms for trending news, ideas, and feedback.

  • Prepare detailed promotional presentations.

  • Help with the planning and hosting of marketing events.

  • Research and evaluate competitor marketing and digital content.

  • Contribute to the creation of mock-ups, email campaigns, and social media content.

  • Contribute to the creation and updating of Website.


  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate course for marketing, communications, or similar field.

  • Familiarity with marketing computer software and social media platforms.

  • Good understanding of the latest marketing trends and techniques.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must have a passion for marketing.

  • Outstanding multitasking abilities.
